Our witness

Quakers are often led by the spirit to put their faith into practice in what is often called “witness.” While individual Friends have many witnesses, below are some of the witnesses that our Meeting is led to.

2007 What I Heard About Iraq
This play, by Simon Levy, is based on the prose poem of the same title by poet Eliot Weinberger. It is an invitation for all sides to take an honest look at what is going on in the Iraq war. It is truth-telling in the purest sense, which means that it is not taking sides, rather, it challenges everyone to see more of the truth through the many different voices of the characters in the play.

1661 Peace Testimony
We utterly deny all outward wars and strife and fightings with outward weapons, for any end or under any pretence whatsoever. And this is our testimony to the whole world. The spirit of Christ, by which we are guided, is not changeable, so as once to command us from a thing as evil and again to move unto it; and we do certainly know, and so testify to the world, that the spirit of Christ, which leads us into all Truth, will never move us to fight any war against any man with outward weapons, neither for the kingdom of Christ, nor for the kingdoms of this world.
