As Quakers, we recognize the rights of children to live in a safe environment with loving families. Therefore, Tampa Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends unites in support of the American Friends Service Committee's (AFSC) campaign to end child separation and detention, especially the indefinite detention of children.
We also support the AFSC's campaign to prevent for-profit detention centers such as the Homestead Detention Center from operating as a detention center as well as preventing new detention centers from opening.
We intend to share this statement of support with the Florida Congressional members and with appropriate U.S. Government administrative personnel. We will also bring forward this statement to Southeastern Yearly Meeting, and include it on our Web site, and other social media platforms and publications as led.
Approved on 8 Ninth Month by Tampa Monthly Meeting.
